All window producers present their items as seen from the outside. If the hinge is located on the left from the exterior view: it’s a left-hand window unit. If the hinge is on the right from the outside: it’s a right-hand window unit. A straightforward method to identify window handing from the interior (where we spend most of our time) is to check which side has the lock for the window requiring a new operator. If the lock is positioned on the left when viewing from the inside, then the hinge is also on the left from the exterior, making it a left-hand window unit. Conversely, if the lock is on the right from the inside, then the hinge is on the right from the exterior and it is a right-hand window unit.

You can determine your window’s handing by identifying the side on which the hinge is located from the outside of your window. If you are on the inside, the handing of the window corresponds to the side bearing the lock.
